today i made a banana cream pie (w/real vanilla beans!) and another apple pie. the banana cream pie turned out super runny...not sure what happened there. i also changed the pie crust recipe a bit - and it seemed to turn out flakier than last time....but the sides totally got burnt. :( here is the pie crust recipe that i used today:

ingredients:
4 cups flour
1 T sugar
2 tsp salt
1 1/4 cups shortening
1/2 cup butter (really cold)
2/3 cup ice-cold water
1 T vinegar
1 egg

directions:
1. sift flour, sugar and salt in a large bowl.
2. cut in shortening + butter.
3. blend together water, vinegar and egg in a separate bowl.
4. add moist ingredients to dry mixing until the dough forms a ball.
5. chill and then roll out!
