making pasta with ethan stowell

(lagana foods pasta video with ethan stowell from seattle magazine on vimeo)

the last two nights i made this pasta. simply because after watching the video - i could actually remember all the ingredients + process without looking at an actual recipe (well i did have to watch it like 5 times). but it really is that easy! i tried to make it exactly like he did in the video so it'd be like we were eating at tavolata. =) here's the price breakdown:

1 can of san marzano whole tomatoes (28oz) - $4.99
1 can of whole foods brand whole tomatoes (28oz) - $1.50
2 lbs italian sausage ($3.99/lb) - $8.00
1 garlic - $0.50
italian parsley - $1.99
lagana foods rigatoni (1lb)  - $7.99 (!!)
grated cheese - $1.50

grand total = $28ish

so that fed both peter + i for two nights and a little bit for packing a lunch. i guess it is cheaper than going to tavolata...haha but still pretty expensive. you could definitely save $10 just from buying regular pasta and the cheaper brand of tomatoes. the 2nd day i used the whole foods tomatoes, and it tasted exactly the same. i forgot to add the oregano.....oh well, i guess watching it over and over doesn't help my memory.
