the first week

i am so excited - this morning i ran across the street in the pouring rain to this little fruit stand and bought some strawberries, blueberries and 3 oranges! i really miss eating fruit. =) i think it reminds me of the sun....which is another thing i really miss. LIGHT in general. my room is usually just as dark in the morning when i wake up as when i go to bed at night. so i never have any idea what time it is....good thing i scheduled all my classes to start at noon.

so i'm done with my first week of classes. in my fashion industry design class (it's a lot of drawing + painting) the very first thing the teacher had us do was draw a fashion figure (like the one above which he drew) and then draw one of our classmates, altering little parts of their outfit so it would fit our own personality. good thing i just had my fashion drawing class the day before where she taught us how to draw a basic fashion figure just using rectangles and lines and curves because i really had no idea what i was doing and he didn't really show us how to do it! but i have learned very quickly that the longer you draw the legs, the better your illustration will look. =) we also have to buy a million art supplies - i'm so glad the people at the art store were so helpful because i was seriously lost in there. i can't remember the last time i've bought real "art supplies" or markers that weren't thick crayola markers for kindergartners. every single day i feel like i'm going to different stores because the first week of class we basically just go over the supplies needed for each class and the syllabus. i also got to go "swatching" for the first time! some stores allow students to take 10 swatches a day for free, so everyday we just go collect different textures/patterns for our books. just walking through the fabric store makes me feel really happy inside. =)

i was planning to go buy all my sewing/pattern making/draping supplies today, but it's raining so hard outside and the thought of getting all dressed and walking around in the rain and taking the subway is not appealing, so i'm just going to stay in and do some homework for now i guess. i started listening to some new stations on pandora, so i'm going to hang out with nat king cole and ella fitzgerald for the afternoon instead.
