little peek into my week
(1. shopping for thread in the fashion district 2. my choice of thread and zippers 3. draping class 4. falafel dinner and salad bar at maoz 5. tyvek shoes 6. my "new" vintage gucci booties from the manhattan vintage show!)
the stores in the fashion district here are amazing! i loved shopping for supplies for my construction classes...they have entire stores that are just filled with zippers of every color/size/material, and there are just rows and rows of thread in every color imaginable. my sewing teacher told us to pick a color that we would enjoy sewing with (not white!), and i absolutely love my purple thread (so weird that a single color can evoke such strong emotions) =) we also started flat pattern making for a basic bodice and draping to create that same pattern. all the measurements, right angles and curves have to be so exact....takes me back to being in geometry.
yesterday i was planning to go to the met - for my history class i have to visit the greek/roman art galleries and do some comparison with contemporary jewelry/fashion (i am really bad at all this art history analyzation stuff), but i never quite made it since i "stopped by" the manhattan vintage show first. this past week i watched the whole first season and got caught up with the 2nd season of downton abbey (it's so good!), and it was so insane that i got to see actual pieces from the early 1900's at the show... the most gorgeous dresses and delicate lace, just like what they wore at downton abbey! supposedly designers will send teams of people to these shows to buy tons and tons of vintage as inspiration for future collections (that sounds like it would be a fun job). anyways, i was about to leave empty-handed since i was only planning to go admire all the beautiful vintage there, when i saw these vintage gucci boots that happened to be my size...so i caved and now they are mine. =) have a great weekend!
