saffron risotto + osso buco

(taken with instagram)

while on vacation, the best meal i had was an unexpected lunch at beretta - a small italian comfort food restaurant in the mission district of san francisco. we felt like eating some pasta, so i quickly yelped some italian places near us with good reviews. after we sat down....we realized that there wasn't actually any pasta on the menu! so i ended up ordering the saffron risotto with osso buco ($16) and it was the most delicious thing i ate the whole trip. i came home wanting to try making this dish....except i think saffron is supposed to be super expensive, and the meat + bones used in osso buco aren't cheap either. i think i'll stick to ordering this at restaurants....i want to go back to sf!
